Completed Granny Project

This is one little afghan that you can't lose in a room. It certainly makes its presence known. However, it does speak happy to me and I love happy!

My girlfriend picked out this project. Initially three of us were doing this and we were going to swap squares but there was a marked difference in size so we all did our own.

It was a really neat project and has given me a whole new perspective on the granny square and its variations. I told her that she has to pick out a June project now as she does such a good job in finding fun and satisfying crochet.















AND...no yarn purchases. This was from all yarn lefover from other projects and what I had on hand.

Here's to granny squares in the future!

Granny Project Progress

Twenty eight squares of "B" pattern completed
for a total of 56 squares.




Forever I have shied away from granny square projects as it always looked far too tedious to me to be changing color, joining, etc. I have been quite surprised and found that this was one of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on. Maybe because 58 squares is attainable, I did recently see a beautiful afghan on a blog (can't remember off hand which one) that was over 250 squares ... maybe that would be more difficult, I don't know. Eventually I may try one to that size and see.

The hardest part so far has been laying them out, trying to figure out what goes best next to what, then finally deciding how the squares are randomly selected is how they will be. With a few adjustments that actually worked out for the best. Other then that one could spend hours trying to position these.

So now, onto joining and edging.

Geesh, not even finished and I am already thinking about the next project. I really can't help it, there are just so many beautiful things to make.

Brrrrrrr, again

What happend to the weather??? Last night we had 31 degree temperatures. I haven't ventured out yet to see how my flowers fared. I did tuck them in last night, hopefully they are ok. Usually whenever I would plant I would always wait until after May 15th, got a little impatient this year and popped them in a week ago.

I'm a little behind on my doily of the month pattern, have to type it up yet but hope to do that later today or tomorrow.

Well, off to uncover the Impatients for the day. I hope I see perky color when I unveil ... (holding my breath!).

Happy Mother's Day

This pin was my mother's. Its now over 50 years old. Not worth anything, at least in monetary terms, but it does hold a treasure of memories. She wore it every Mother's Day for 45 years or more.

I gave it to her when I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. I remember going shopping in a store called Fishman's with a few dollars in my pocket to shop for Mother's Day. It was like a 5 and 10 across the street from Woolworth's. Does anyone remember Woolworth's? I thought this pin was the cat's meow! I guess Mom did too.

She wore it for the last time 6 years ago. Its been with me since. It will be passed on.

Happy Mother's Day mom.

Granny Project Update

The amount of cut off tails has grown ... actually doubled in size. So you know what that means! ... the first 28 squares are done!

I don't usually hold onto the cut off tails, must be the wonderful color mix as I love these. Wish I could think of something to do with them. Can you think of anything? I may just have to keep getting larger bowls and continue tossing in the cutoffs. Goodness, the crochet addiction is also growing.

Anyway ...

here they are, all 28 of them.

With the number of skeins I had I did 14 color variations so I could do 2 of each.

Now onto the other granny pattern, also for 28 of them, same color variations.

Round Ripple

This is such a great project.

If you are looking for a nice blanket for a new little one try the round ripple. This goes up quickly and is fun to make and I think its so pretty! These are a few off my hook .

Happy Thursday To You

Good morning and good day. Spoke to an old friend last night. A treasured friend. She moved this past summer. We're now on opposite sides of the country. We spoke for quite some time. It was a nice conversation. Just hearing her voice makes me smile. She's one of those people who are not only beautiful on the outside but even more so on the inside. A rare find.

Time to get into the day so off and running in a few. My latest crochet granny project is coming along nicely, about 20 squares completed out of the first 28. Looking to get a few more done tonight.

Look at these wonderful colors! These are the tails that have been cut off of the latest adventure with yarn.














Just love these happy colors, these skeins of yarn are those I had left over from other projects. They are getting put to good use right now.


My girlfriend found this great throw, very easy and very pretty. Three of us are going to make this and exchange squares so we all have a part in each other's throw. Isn't that neat!

There are two different square patterns. Make 28 squares of each pattern (total of 56). So far half way done with one of the patterns.














I just love crocheting and even more so when its shared with wonderful friends.

Being Impatient

I haven't had much time in the past several years to garden but I miss the glorious colors of flowers. On the way home today I stopped and picked up a flat of Impatients, they are my favorite. I love when they fill in and they blanket the earth in color. Looking like rain on the horizon I rushed home and got them planted and happily, I thought, before the rain came. And what better time to get them planted but with a warm day (91 degree temp) rain.

I'm beginning to think that the rain is being blown by and rather take the chance of no water on their initial planting I just came in from watering them.



They are planted in a small section to the left of the front steps, to the right is my peony bush which has promised me some beautiful blooms.
By them are the bird feeders. Fully filled waiting for their visitors.

Next to add a few pots of flowers to the steps this week. I should be able to handle taking care of this small amount.

Now, to steal a few minutes in the evening with a cup of tea, doing my evening prayers on the front steps and watching my flowers grow.

Infant Coverlet

Finally, finally, finally completed! I had finished the little blanket itself back in March (my Crocheted Canvas) and decided it needed to be lined. Well, it has set all this time till today I decided enough was enough and it was high time this project needed to be completed.

The How To:
The blanket itself is nothing more then single crochets ... as wide and a long as you would like. The edging is (1) a row of single crochets around the entire blanket, (2) ch 3, skip one sc, sc in next st around, (3) ch 3 sc in ch loop around, join and finish off. Simple enough!

Pick out a cross stitch pattern, using same ply yarn, cross stitch the pattern. You will be able to count out the stitches, one stitch to one crochet.

A lining not only covers the reverse side of the cross stitch pattern but adds warmth.

As I had added the edging before I put the lining on it needed to be hand sewn on, and as I do enjoy the quietness of hand stitching at times this worked out fine. (Normally with right sides together I would machine sew the lining on, leaving an opening for turning, then press and add the edging.) I had bought a yard of off white quilted fabric and washed and dryed it first.

Cut the fabric the size the blanket (including edging), fold under edges and pin to blanket and sew in place and press.

I had originally thought I would use a lamb's wool type material but I really do like the quilting. I am very pleased with how it turned out and happy to say another project completed!
