Granny Project Progress

Twenty eight squares of "B" pattern completed
for a total of 56 squares.

Forever I have shied away from granny square projects as it always looked far too tedious to me to be changing color, joining, etc. I have been quite surprised and found that this was one of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on. Maybe because 58 squares is attainable, I did recently see a beautiful afghan on a blog (can't remember off hand which one) that was over 250 squares ... maybe that would be more difficult, I don't know. Eventually I may try one to that size and see.

The hardest part so far has been laying them out, trying to figure out what goes best next to what, then finally deciding how the squares are randomly selected is how they will be. With a few adjustments that actually worked out for the best. Other then that one could spend hours trying to position these.

So now, onto joining and edging.

Geesh, not even finished and I am already thinking about the next project. I really can't help it, there are just so many beautiful things to make.

Granny Square Happy!

  1. I find it so soothing and theraputic to just sit and crochet... be it squares or doilies...whatever!...i either put on music, or pop in a DVD and have some fun!

  3. oooooohh so very pretty.....You are inspiring me to drag out that hexy one I made a year or so ago. I lost interest in when it came time to join...while I enjoy making the squares, instant gratification...sewing them together is not my favorite..I really need to finish it because the colors are pretty, and I put alot of time into already...Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. I love the colors and the black just frames the squares so nicely and really makes them pop. I printed off this pattern but haven't tried it yet. I just seem to be stumped with the other granny squares I've tried. Practice makes perfect. Maybe, eventually I will get it. Hope you are having sunshine today. And if not, then crocheting is definitely the best way to wile away the time. :) Best wishes, Tammy

  5. Those are fun colors, I like the black trim. I tend to avoid Granny square projects. I dislike putting all the squares together.

  6. I can see you've been very busy and if I don't get off this computer, I'll never get anything done.

p.s. that's why I don't do granny squares. I don't like all that joining of the various pieces because I don't like to sew, nor have a lot of space for spreading things out.

    You're doing a great job!

  8. It is up Dear Glor...the pesky hexy......I will be glad when this is sewn together, and it holds..or at least I hope it does. It will need an edging...which will be fun...because...
    it is crochet....:)

  10. Granny's are my favorite "mindless" crochet items. It seems like I am always making something for someone else though & I never get to work on my Granny's!

I can't wait to see it all finished up Glor! It's looking beautiful!

    Love & Hugs, Anita

  11. I'm made lots of granny square afghans, and there are so many ways to join them. Some of rather lacy looking and they add lots of space to the quilt so you don't need as many squares. You-Tube has some really good tutorials on putting them together in different ways.
