Noticed yesterday lilac bushes in full bloom. They always bring a smile to my face and a tug at my heart. I remember freshly cut lilacs in a vase near an open window. The window's curtain gently moving about as the breeze wisked by and carried the scent of lilac about. When I was in grade school my mother would prepare a bouquet for me to take to school to my teacher. They were so beautiful. The stems were carefully wrapped with a dampened towel and then foil was wrapped around that. I wonder if children still bring their teacher flowers.
Wishing you lilac memories.
Oh, how I envy you! I miss lilacs so much! The magnolia's are in bloom here right now, and while I enjoy their beauty, lilacs are always one of my favorite blossoms, especially for their delicious scent!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet memories. I love how the scent of flowers can remind you of certain times in your life. Music does that for me, too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours always
I don't know if they do, but I doubt it. I love lilacs - they remind me of my childhood in Germany and my Oma (grandmother)...we had white and lavender lilac bushes. That reminds me, I had to spritz myself with some Eau de Toilette called "Pur Desir de Lilas" by IvesRocherUSA.com - that is the only place where I can find a true lilac scent that actually smells like the real thing and not like some insecticide. I sometimes spray my silk lilacs with them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful memory! To go along with one of the greatest scents on earth... Mine are ALMOST ready to open now! I'll have to shoot lots of pics when they do!
ReplyDeleteI miss lilacs. I remember them as a child in NY state. I have a bush started here, which I've had for a few years but it's very small and only one branch left. I moved it out where it gets more sun hoping it will grow here. I don't have much hope for it to make it. Although it's hung on this long. Happy Mother's Day Glor!
ReplyDeleteI have similar lilac memories, Gloria. And now I have some new ones. We did a little photo shoot last night, and included were Laura's lilac bushes...and, of course, my grandkids. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the lilac tree we had one in our garden when i was growing up such a pretty bloom, Have a lovely weekend, dee x
ReplyDeleteWe had mostly azaleas and magnolias in Mississippi and Louisiana. I don't know if I've ever seen lilacs in a bouquet before. I know they aren't available here. My moss roses are starting to bloom even though it is 100 degrees outside. :/ Hope you have a wonderful day. Tammy
