Needle and Threads

are making for busy hands.  As much as I love crocheting doilies I find I am equally loving cross stitch.  Such sweet, wonderful designs I am finding to make ornaments or small pillows.  Makes for an easy take along anywhere.

I want to pick up a small, table top size, Christmas tree this fall to seasonally decorate throughout the year.  Whether it will be green or white I haven't decided yet ... I have seen white ones on a few blogs and they have been beautifully adorned for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter ... etc.  I think cross stitch ornaments for the little tree would be so special.  With that in mind, I came upon this pattern ... Quaker Holly at The Workbasket - Free.  You an see the completed design at their site.  The center of the flowers have french knots but I am thinking  maybe of putting beads there instead.

Right now I'm using 14 count cloth.  I really would like to make ornaments using a 28 or 32 count.  Hoping that eventually I can do that.  I so admire the work I have seen with those count cloths, they are just so beautiful..

These are a few more designs I have found  and am on the look out for friendship type saying and charts.  A few people that I would like to make something special for.  Any ideas?

Keeping In Stitches ...

  1. I don't think I could do cross stitch. I would get bored really quick and my hands would hurt I think from holding the needle. I'm really bad at sewing and the thread getting all tangled up. Sounds like disaster for me. :o) I've seen a lot of pretty patterns. Check out Herrshners web site, I got a catalog not long ago with a lot of cross stitch patterns in it. xoxo

  3. Thank you for the Quaker Holly pattern. I love anything quaker and Christmas. :)

I think anything you make for someone would be treasured because it was made by your hands with love. :)

I almost feel that I must apologize to your crochet hooks for getting you back into cross stitch....but you are like me, you love crocheting and stitching, too. :)

Blessings to you and yours always.

  4. I have been spending more time stitching than hooking lately also. At work I have a hour and a half, sometimes 2 hour break (naptime for the kiddies) and its easier to take my cross stitch in with me to work on than a large bag of yarn. Happy stitching and/or hooking!

  7. In my last two years of high school I worked for a lady who had turned her garage into a nursery and she is actually the one who taught me how to cross-stitch. Her name was Elenora. I love to cross-stitch and used to do big patterns with lots of detail and backstitching. I have so little patience now, that I just want to do quick and easy projects. In fact, if I can just use one color on a pattern, I'm a happy camper. :) I can see you are moving right along on this pattern. I need to organize everything I have -- copies of patterns collected over nearly 30 years just like yarn can be found in every drawer, cupboard and trunk. Yikes! I really need to get organized. Have a great rest of the day. Tammy
