Yarn Stash

See what happens when we get some cool weather. I just can't resist digging into my yarn stash.

These are just some of the colors I have picked up lately. Started playing around with some patterns and color combos.

I really should be finishing up some of my projects but just couldn't wait to see how these would look. Grannies have become a new found friend for me. Can't get enough of them, although I'm starting to think ripple afghan...saw some amazing ones that work all these colors too. Stayed tuned for ripples coming my way ... at least until the temperatures rise again.

Have a colorful evening.

Lovely Morning

Good Morning! The air has cleared, its actually quite cool this morning, a mere 51 degrees. Relief after the hot humidity the past few days. It promises to be a beautiful day ... but then any day is a beautiful day, its just how we look at it. (Have to remember that one for myself!)

Off and about in a few. Hope to get some crocheting done tonight. Still reworking my Round Red Robin Doily, then to make it again just to make sure so it will still be a bit before I repost. If anyone would like to test the pattern for me after this rework, please let me know.

Our First Miracle

happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you

June 28th - 34 years old.
God bless you son.
With all our Love
Thirty Four years ago ...

I miss the patter

of little paws. I've had a dog most of my life. Our last one passed two years ago at the age of 16. I've been so back and forth over getting another dog. I'm going to see Max this afternoon, he's being fostered by a woman for one of our local shelters. I am trying not to be too excited, they told me they have received many calls on him.

Addendum ... he was adorable, a wonderful little dog; several people are interested in him. I made the decision not to pursue adopting him, I'm probably going to regret this.

Hot Day, Cool Salad

My mother gave me this recipe many years ago. Its supereasy and it is always a refreshing salad during summer.

I don't really know the name of it, we always called it

Health Salad
1/2 green cabbage - chopped
1/2 red cabbage - chopped
Green pepper - diced
Onion - diced
Grated Carrots
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp White Vinegar
1/3 cup oil
6 tsp sugar - I do not use the sugar
but some people like it in -
your choice
salt and pepper to tast
Mix, chill well and dig in.
Its a wonderful crunchy cool me down treat,
great for picnics and barbeques or
just for a snack by itself.

On Their Way

To the UK ...

To Channelle

A sweet, loving sister who will add these into the afghan she is making for her sister, Carol, who is undergoing chemo.

It has struct me how crocheting reaches out and touches hearts. Channelle had asked would anyone like to help her in this project for her sister. In visiting her site I see that she has received many, many squares and from all over.

I am sure that every square, every stitch has held heart felt prayers and thoughts for Channelle's sister.

May the blanket Channelle makes provide comfort and peace to her and Carol.

Blessings to Channelle and Carol.

My Apologies

Just to let you know that I have pulled my Round Red Robin doily for a rework. I believe there is a problem with the pattern and will go back to the drawing board! Thank you to the person who emailed me, a kind way to let me know, I really appreciate that.

It may take a little bit before I get it back up, I am working on it now.

Have a lovely day.

Keeper Recipe

Even though its almost summer and the temperatures are heating I can see that I will be using my crockpot throughout the summer. Very tasty, not a morsel was left. Quite simple (falls into my super easy category with ease) and leaves you to be out and about doing something else while dinner is cooking.
Crockpot Caribbean Ribs

3 lbs. pork long back ribs, cut into 4" pieces
1 tsp.pepper
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. ground mustard
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce

Combine spices and rub into ribs. Place in 3-4 quart slow cooker and pour the water over them. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours of until ribs are tender when pierced with a port. Remove ribs from slow cooker and discard cooking liquid. Replace ribs in crockpot and add barbecue sauce. Cover and cook on low for 1 hour. 6 servings.

Caring can be a color ...

or colors ... like, pinks, purples, creams, whites, pale yellow ... and when these colors are found in yarn they can be crocheted, with love and special thoughts, into most beautiful pieces.

Anita from ASE Knits 'n' Crochets posted about Channelle in the UK and Channelle's June 9th entry (Channelle's Crochet Creations) about her sister's recent diagnosis of cancer and the fact that she would like to put together a blanket of granny squares for her sister for the many months ahead of chemo and radiation treatment.

There's something about crochet that provides comfort. I know a few months back when I had to go for a heart catherization I was given a prayer shawl from my church. I cannot tell you how deeply that touched me. Holding this amazing hand made yarn fabric gave me such peace. Here, from someone I didn't know, probably won't ever know, I had the product of someone who cared enough to reach out.

This is what Channelle is doing for her sister

Thought you might like to know about this.

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary

How does your garden grow?

Albeit small, my flower gardening is bursting with color. Its really a wonderful thing to watch take place ... a little sappy, huh? I like sappy, makes me stop for a moment and take note of the creations which we have been blessed with. I need to do that more often and take a break from the all too busy routines of the day.
God our Father,
yours is the beauty of creation
and the good things you have given us.
Help us to begin this day joyfully in your name
and to spend it in loving service of you and
our fellow man.
May your day be filled with
bursts of color, blessings and joy.

Library Book Sale Treasures

I love books, I especially love old books and I love craft books ...

a late morning stroll through the city library book sale and I left with a wonderful canvas bag and 5 craft books ... three Christmas, two Cross Stitch. The books were $1.00 each and are packed full of ideas, patterns, and recipes which I just could not resist.

The bag was a bit more but its a heavy duty canvas and a good size. (I'm also a pushover for totes and bags). Besides carting books I can always put in some yarn and thread.

There are some really cute and beautiful cross stitch patterns. Maybe I can use the bag for cross stitch ... I've been drawn to cross stitch again now for some time. I think maybe I need to work some of that into my time.

Aren't these pretty. Love the little toys.

As far as Christmas goes, I think its never too early. The recipes ... aren't these Pecan Cakes cute (a cousin I'm sure to cupcakes ... I'm sold!), the decorations, which can always be adapted to other times of the year. Lots of wonderful ideas.

I think these 5 books can and will keep me busy for a very long time.

I think this says it all.
The older I get the more I treasure something that has been given to me that has been made by the giver.
A true treasure.

To lots of treasured days.

Playing with Yarn and Thread ...

my favorite things to do ...

The Simply Simple Afghan is coming along nicely. This little afghan calls for 5 rows of 8 tiny grannies; 40 in all. I have 16 completed and joined (2 rows) and 21 centers completed. These do go up quickly and I think the afghan center should be completed in the next few days.

Two new small doily designs I have been working on. Up until this year I had never tried my hand at designing. Its actually almost amusing as the pieces seem to take on a direction of their own. Even if I have an idea of what I would like to try the end results are completely different.

Now to test the patterns.

And what's on your hook?

Have a nice evening.

Great Side Dish for Dinner

Photobucket Found this oh so simple, super easy, side dish at All Recipes and made it last night to go along side some pork chops. It was really, really good. I can see that this is going to be a summer favorite.

I didn't have the beans it called for and used a can of butter beans, a yellow pepper and red onion. I cooked the pepper and onions just a bit so they still had a bit of a crunch to them.

White Beans and Peppers

1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 large onion, chopped
1 yellow gypsy (bull horn) sweet pepper, chopped
1 (15 ounce) can great Northern beans, drained
1 pinch dried oregano
ground cayenne pepper to taste
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion and sweet pepper, and cook until tender. Mix in beans. Season with oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until beans are heated through.

White Beans and Peppers Recipe -

Mmmm, mmmm good! There were no leftovers, makes for a keeper recipe.

Have a great day!
