I'm looking forward to this ... seven of us including myself will be working on this 1918 doily. The pattern itself is at Crochet Treasures ... I thank them for sharing these wonderful works of art.
The pattern calls for size 20 thread and a size 12 hook , too small for me right now, so I am going to use size 10 thread with a size 4 hook. Use whatever is comfortable for you. I picked out a creme color from my thread stash. This is a larger ball of thread then needed. I really thought about Christmas colors (I may have to do another one) but I'm thinking maybe the lighter color will photograph better to see stitches, etc.
The stitches that will be used are chain, single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet and picot.
I'm thinking of maybe getting this start off on Friday. If you want to go ahead and start feel free. Wanted to get this much posted as, of course, my computer is acting up, so making use of the time its working. Will post stitch instructions when I get back home today (hopefully). Have a great day!
Hi Glor! Can't wait to start too, but I won't be able to pick up my thread till Saturday.. I'm wondering if you would mind my using one of your photos to post your crochet along on my right side bar?? (from the post just previous to this?.. second photo down)... I haven't made a doily in quite some time, and would love to join in for this crochet along, if I may! This one might be nice for Christmas gifts too actually, so if I can work quickly enough, maybe I'll make at least a couple more! ~tina
ReplyDeleteI printed the pattern off last night, and started with problems from row 3, the numbers don't add up! I did it like 3 times, so I'm going to wait and join you. maybe I'll see what my mistake is. Thanks for organizing this!
ReplyDeleteI may use a #20 white thread and either 8 or 7 hook.
Glor, it is the first set of instructions from the pattern, right? I want to make sure I am doing the correct one! I may do mine in Christmas colors.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be a beautiful project, and I like the color you've chosen.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made a doily in years, but I think you've given me just the kickstart I needed. Now if only I could find the time...
I am looking forward to this! It's funny, I JUST last night crocheted with size 10 thread and a "C" hook for the first time. It took some getting used to, but I found I really enjoyed how easy it is to SEE the stitch definition when working with thread. I made the "Dreamcatcher" motif (free pattern on Ravelry) and loved how it turned out. Just have to block it. My point is, I no longer fear crocheting with thread and a tiny hook, and look forward to joining you!
ReplyDeleteYou all have fun. I am going to make the OTHER doily on the right.
ReplyDeleteI'm joining in too...looking forward to the next set of directions..is that how it works Glor? I never did this before...It sounds like so much fun, and we are all doing this together scattered all over the place...to fun...
